Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight

Willow Bridge 2001 Shiraz - second bottle with a lot of brett.
Any suggestions out there? Left it decanted overnight with a fresh cork in it, seemed to help a little.

RImu Grove Chardonnay 2014 and Rimu Grove Pinot 2010, stunning wine when tasted in Nelson four weeks ago.
Also Rimu Grove Lumberjack, a wooded Pinot Gris one-off 10/11 vintage, Expecting great things from it.

[quote="JamieBahrain"][quote="Luke W"]Sitting on the Yangtze drinking a Chinese Great Wall Reserve cabernet - gotta say it's about the worst muck I've ever drunk. No body, no nuance,no complexity - think most Australian casks would be better tipples - should have stocked up on th...

Mini Vertical Magill Estate. 90, 92, 93, 94.
All in astonishing condition, some slight brick developing in 92 and 93.
Took a full 2 hours to open up, fascinating to watch them reveal more and more layers.
90 and 94 definite winners. 90 at its best probably, 94 good for another 3-5.

Re: March 2016 Purchases

As per Luke W bought a "few" wines from a certain auction house. All wines in excellent condition, perfectly cellared based on limited tastings. 3 x 12 x 2003 Binder Mitchell Dovetail SGM 2x 12 x 2002 Binder Mitchell Dovetail Baroota Shiraz 1 x 12 x 2000 Henry's Drive Cabernet Sauvignon 20...

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight

Sampled a couple of wines bought online through a well known auction house - average 20-30 % of retail. 2001 Willow Bridge reserve Shiraz - somewhat dry cork but no sign of leakage. Excellent colour, a little brickiness emerging. Lovely soft fruit and tannin balance, sous bois and leather notes init...

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight

2009 Tapanapa Foggy Hill. My first venture into Fleurieu peninsula Pinot. Didn't disappoint. Slightly brick in colour, beautifully integrated, cherry, plum and soft tannins. More like NZ Pinot a la Dog Point, La Strada, Felton Rd than typical Aus ones. Must be the cool maritime climate slowing the f...

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight

2003 Yalumba Signature - perfect cork, retained a good initial nose without overwhelming fruit edge. Nice grippy tannin without being excessive. Lovely mouth length with fine silky finish, nice hint of eucaypt at the finish. Probably perfect time to crack this one 2006 MSV Grenache - I bought a lot ...

Re: TN: Lunch with an old chenin

Wood aged chenins are a delight with some age. Not very many available in oz. Peel estate make one which ages beautifully. I try to give them 8-10 years before touching them. It's very common on the Cape (South Africa) but hard to get here.
