All quiet on the Chinese Front. How are things now, Jamie? Are you and your family going to get vaccinated and return home anytime soon?
Happy New Year. Hope it goes well for you.

Re: China targets Australian wine industry
Surely the solution is to sell double magnums or something. "containers of two-litres or less are subject to a ‘Provisional Measure’ deposit rate of 169.3 per cent" Penfolds should ship the wine to China in large bladders. Then bottle it in China. Tariff avoided. You can't beat the CCP li...

Re: Right, COVID-19, what are we drinking right now?
4 new cases today in 1.4 billion people with a novel virus with high AR, severe virulence, and which originated in China. 4 new cases three months after origin. Doctors analysing this are seriously shaking their heads in disbelief. Although the West seems incredibly reluctant to admit it, we in the...

Re: Langtons Classification VII
There are so many wines the equal of many of these wine that aren't on this list. For example, if they have kooyong Haven, why not Ferrous? Why not Stonier Reserve? And so many more. I see Oakridge, Kooyong, etc., have sold many wines on Langton's. Are they on the list just because they've been on L...

Carl,
I guess that's what somms are for.
Also, given you're an traditional Aussie wine drinker, maybe Languedoc-Roussillon reds, being from a warmer climate will better suit. DT Emillion, as you've found, is another likely candidate.

A lot of these wines have already gone up in price a lot already. I doubt they will go up much more. Some aren't low price, either.

Re: The corked wine thread
I was at the Coonawarra Roadshow in Perth yesterday, and myself and an industry professional were surprised to find one producer offering a 20 year old wine from magnum - and it was corked. Certainly in my experience behind the tasting table, you tasted every bottle you uncorked before serving. Per...

Re: What is the most egregious wine pricing you have seen?
Tyrrell's Museum Release 160th Anniversary Vat 1 Semillon 2005 $179.
I know it's a top wine and storage costs money, but that's about 4 times release price, maybe more.

Re: 2018 Sydney Royal Wine Show results
But show results are in general a very poor way to guide wine buying decisions. Re "dodgy critics", you should all be subscribers to The Wine Front, they are the best in Aus, with interaction with subscribers making it all real. It is a poor way? Honestly, unless you're aligned with The W...

Re: 2019 Halliday Awards
I think its reasonable to take the Halliday ratings with a grain of salt. Ultimately it comes down to the question of whether you like the wine - not what somebody else thinks of it. That said, as someone who is relatively new to wine, the book has introduced me to dozens of wines that I otherwise ...

Lol. I think the embargo is for journalists, not consumers! Re any “embargo” I don’t see the point of upsetting anyone if they have one. I was thinking the wine probably shouldn’t have been on sale yet anyway. I remember the Ozwine blog getting into trouble with Penfolds a few years ago and Andrew ...
