Re: TN: A Pefolds Dinner 07/05/21

Very generous host indeed, should be great! I'd be looking forward to the older St Henri bracket for sure. And the older 389 bracket. And the 707 bracket as I've not tried one! I served 1986, 1990, and 1996 St Henri at a birthday dinner a couple years back, and they were all above any '98 Bin 389 I'...

Hi all, while I’d love to come along, we’re planning on camping this weekend. If the weather turns tooo bad that we cancel, and there’s still a spot left I’ll call out. Sure it will be a great night.

Cheers Jamie, and yes the relative expense usually gives me pause, and noted drinking young wasteful, though I’ll never know if I’m wowed by them until I try I guess!

Couple of nice write-ups there the last couple of days Jamie.

Roagna always sounds terrific, I really need to try to grab a bottle or two next time I see an offer.

Thanks Allan. I often find the estate Chardonnay needs a bit of time for my tastes, even more than the Pinot.

I’ve got a ‘15 I might open this week sometime.

Re: Howard Park “Abercrombie” Cabernet Sauvignon vertical tasting

Thanks Allan, full of useful info as usual. Think the only one I have is 2009 under Magnum (or is it 2008..? hm). I'll probably leave longer in any case, sounds like might be a bit of an in-between stage of development.

Cheers,

Hi Jamie, I keep mine at Kennards at Newstead, and I'm happy with it there, though the price has been creeping up steadily, they often have better pricing for new business. It was the Milton location that flooded I'm fairly sure. A mate has used Wineaway - good for him to have managed storage as he'...

Hi mychurch, I really enjoy reading about your wines, most of which I’ve not heard of so certainly extending my knowledge. And many of the whites sound like where my tastes are heading at the moment, not that I’ll come across them in any case. I’ll follow any locally available wines you find with in...

Mount Pleasant for me, I’d love to try an O’Shea more than any other Australian wine.

International. Not sure - probably Cappellano, that write up Jamie did back to the 20s looked incredible. Or Prum. Or Cheval Blanc.

2004 Taittinger Comtes Blanc de Blanc - seemed a bit indulgent to drink this with my wife to celebrate our 3rd grandchild on the way. Last time I had this it was an Auswine forum dinner at Sherwood with the troops, so I knew not to drink it too quickly or too cold. Not much development in 5 yrs and...

By Farr. Gembrook Hill for Yarra Valley. I like Curly Flat a lot, terrific wines, just seen higher heights with others. I probably need to try some aged based on this thread. I haven't tried any of the top old-guard Yarra - Mt Mary; Yeringberg etc, nor Bindi, and my ignorance here is not providing a...

Best’s do bottle one - but not Pinot Noir - their Old Vine Pinot Meunier is made from vines planted 1868, only top vintages apparently. I’ve never tried.

Coriole Sangiovese 18 - An older, well established vineyard loaded up with sangiovese now, also newer vines with different clones in the mix. Could be that or the style is changing a little. Medium-bodied and not as dry and grippy as it used to be. Mid red coloured and lovely perfumed aromas. Cherr...

I get a lot of enjoyment from using Zalto glasses, use them all the time and so get more ongoing enjoyment from the glass, than from a couple of non-descript $25 wines. Having said that, they are kinda expensive, so I just ask for a glass each birthday or Christmas present.. For Nebbiolo I usually u...

Though I'm not confirmed to attend yet... Keen to look at both the whites for sure. Reds, my thoughts would be: Marius Shiraz, be great to try some of the earliest vintages. Then Limestone Ridge and the Turkey Flat, due to preference, and that there are a couple of old vintages in those wines. If I ...

Well yes they could if they wanted to. Would just surprise me I guess, perhaps I’m naive, I would have thought they would keep the individual vineyard wines as just that.

Jamie, didnt mean to come across argumentative, no doubt you’re closer to the knowledge than I.

Surely they wouldn't put HOG fruit in the Mt Ed as a single vineyard wine itself.

And thanks for the notes too Graeme. I've got a couple of older vintages of the Reserve Bin Chardonnay i need to get to.

Thanks for the note Jamie, good to read a considered note, as I got a couple of the 2014, though I likely won't buy many (any?) others from 2014.

Is the bowl on that Zalto the same as the burgundy stem?
