Re: Burgundy Pilgrimage Tour
Thanks for the tips Dave and Mark, I will do as you suggest. Just hope I don't overdo it (consumption wise) as the night before is our wedding anniversary (38th.).
Appreciated.

Re: Burgundy Pilgrimage Tour
A great read and a timely one Dave. The Mrs. and I are booked in for a tour with Robert in Mid September, so it was terrific to hear that you enjoyed yourself.
Thanks again

Re: TN: Six Hunter cellar doors
Thanks for the detailed notes GraemeG - that's a great read (had me salivating !). Tyrrells are always a highlight visit for me when I get up that way. Some of the pricing at McWilliams is beginning to look a bit scary though. Makes Andrew Thomas look increasingly better VFM, e.g. Sweewater Shiraz a...

Re: Cork vs Screwcap - Any Recent Comparisons?
The Old World/New World attitudes can be interesting. My wife and I were in Burgundy in September. During a tasting at Joseph Drouhin (name dropping !) we raised the Cork v. Screwcap debate and the “polite†response was along the lines that Screwcaps were not to be taken seriously. The d...

Re: Good daily shiraz
G'Day Shane,
Tulloch Pokolbin Dry Red Shiraz at $25 ($20 club members) is the everyday red at Casa Mick. The current vintage (2013) comes in at only 12.3% alc. so that makes it a good medium bodied mid-week red for us. I'd also second the Gemtree Uncut and Lazy Balerina suggestions.
Cheers

Re: Aged Red Wines - what am I doing wrong?
What an interesting can of worms you have opened with this discussion Ozzie W! I have also been a long time “lurker†around this forum and one thing that has fascinated me has been the differences in various poster’s palates – particularly, as you have enquired, in regard t...

Re: Tyrrells Private Bin
Yes, greatly appreciated Dan. Like sjw 11, I would also be interested in your thoughts on cellaring for the Vat 9. Interesting that you mentioned the Vat 9 was "deeper" than recent vintages. I was surprised at the lightness of the '11 when I first tasted it - I'm wondering if it has put on...

Re: 2012 Shaw & Smith Shiraz
Interesting to read Jeremy Pringle's underwhelming review of the 2013 M3 Chardonnay as being "high acid and slim", although he does state it is "in desperate need of more time in the bottle". Guess I'll have to wait 'till August and see for myself.

Re: 2012 Shaw & Smith Shiraz
A very nice drop indeed Rory ! I've only tasted the 2012's ( very much enjoyed the M3 Chardonnay as well) - so thanks Wayno, nice to hear the 07 is drinking well. I was wondering about the Shiraz's track record in the cellar - I've read review's recommending anything from 2 to 8 years ? So easy to d...

Re: Tyrrells Private Bin
Thanks for clearing that up Chris. I hope you didn't mind me quoting Michael Paterson - his time and feedback were greatly appreciated. As you can see, there are a number of us with fond memories of Vat 11 (Mahmoud, Mike Hawkins, myself and many more no doubt). I remember having a similar conversati...

Re: Tyrrells Private Bin
Well spotted Mahmoud !
I have just received a reply from Michael Paterson at Tyrrells regarding the elusive Baulkham Vineyard. He says this is a Tyrrells owned vineyard, with the fruit previously going into Vat 11 (hence your '00 Vat 11 Mahmoud) and now it goes into Vat 9.
Cheers

G'Day Mahmoud,
I noticed your interest in the Baulkham Vineyard, so I have taken Dan's advice and emailed Tyrrells - will post when I get a reply.
And back then (geez I sound old !) they all had the Yellow label.

Re: Tyrrells Private Bin
Thanks Dan. I agree regarding the Shiraz/Pinot blends - considering the emergence of the HVD & The Hill Pinot Noir, you would think there would be enough pinot material. But alas, fashion tends to dictate. The other interesting ones in that list are the Vat 9 being from the 4 Acre Vineyard and t...

Re: Tyrrells Private Bin
G'Day fellow wine lovers. "First time poster............" you know how it goes. The discussion on Tyrrells Vat 11 piqued my interest. I was a Private Bin Member back in the 1970's and 80's (kids got in the way, but I've happily been a member again for a few years now). The Vat 11 used to b...
