Re: A weekend in SA

I think it depends, Allan, on what you're currently enjoying drinking. If you're liking your big fruity shiraz, then definitely head to the Barossa. And if you start at the Angaston end (as suggested: Henschke, Yalumba, roaring forties) then you might as well drop in to 'Taste Eden' for a good round...

Yeah - my thoughts exactly - seems like readings couldn't be that accurate, which is why I'm interested in other peoples experience before I commit to buying.

Re: 1998 Petaluma Coonawarra

The Petaluma Coonawarra was a bit of a stand out for me at last years Langtons tasting, but I know this wasn't the case for everyone - some found it stewy and over extracted - maybe I'm just a sucker for a hint of menthol.
I believe this was the 2010.

Wine thermometer

As a wine drinker without a cellar I find myself juggling reds in and out of the fridge, to get them to drinking temperature (particularly in Adelaide at the moment.) I'm looking to simplify this process. Has anyone used one of those infrared or collar type thermometers that they would recommend? I ...

Re: Clarendon Hills Astralis

Funny, I just had a long discussion this morning about this wine with a friend of mine who is a wine rep. He was saying he went to a Langton's tasting recently and in his view this wine was better than the Grange, Hill of Grace and a couple of the other top SA wines. So far as he is concerned, this...

Re: Help with Italian Wine

Sad isn't it TrickyH. The same old story repeating endlessly. You start with something like Riparosso thinking that's where it will stay. Before you know it, you're dabbling in entry level sangiovese and nebbiolo. Then it all goes crazy and your living room is littered with empty bottles of Barolo,...

Re: Help with Italian Wine

There's a wine right under your nose... And of course there's also Joe Grilli (Primo Estate) who makes a number of Italian varieties. He has now expanded to producing and bottling wine in Italy which is imported back into Australia. The Tuscan Shiraz Sangiovese from Cortona is particularly worth a ...

Re: Your favourite Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir.

This is a tough call simply because it seems, to me at least, that peoples perception of what makes a good Pinot vary more divergently than most varieties. Some of my most memorable drinking experiences have been with Pinot (Central Otago) but I have also had a few of those "reviewer x gave thi...

Agreeing with Craig on all but one point. It was a really good show, just the right crowd size and good food to accompany the tasting. Have to give kudos to the serving staff with the vast majority being happy to have a chat and talk about the wine - even though they had done it 200 times before on ...

Scott Pape (the Barefoot Investor) recommends setting up three different bank accounts to handle your budget. Re: Adelaide Hills Cellar Door Recommendations

Just a follow up for anyone interested. We were planning to start at Gumeracha and make our way to Hahndorf stopping at Protero and Tilbrook but the inclement weather (wettest day for 45 years according to the local rag) caused a last minute change of plan. We had to limit ourselves to cellar doors ...

Off the bat my Fave wines were; K1 Pinot noir. ... I thought the 2009 K1 Pinot was a fantastic wine but when I tried the 2010 at cellar door a few weeks ago I was completely underwhelmed. It seemed so different to the 2009 with quite a pungent nose, acidity overwhelming the fruit and a short finish...

There are also the Brown Brothers reds that are on the sweet side: Cienna, Tarrango, Dolcetto & Syrah. The Brown Brothers "Crouchen" wines all have a bit of sugar too. Then there are the emerging wines that are Sauvignon Blanc with a "dash" of moscato in them. Had the "...

Your question got me thinking about a bottle of 2005 Noon 'High Noon' Rose that I had put in a box for disposal. So I put it in the fridge and opened it tonight. It's 14.5% alc and the note on the back of the bottle says 'drink young' so I was just expecting hot vinegar. However, it was actually tra...

Ian, can you give a sense of the demographic of these events and the number of people that usually attend. Ie. is it a retired lawyers club or is the demographic a bit more diverse. Not that I have anything against lawyers just trying to get a sense of what to expect.

There's actually quite a bit to explore within the Moscato family from the ultra sweet through to the more complex - something like Rockfords frontignac might help your wife develop an appreciation for the more complex nature of wine while still appeasing the need for sweetness. As others have said ...

- whether any guarantee is given that you will get to taste all the wines - or are tastings only provided until stock run out
