2008 Pagodes de Cos d'Estournel very nice second wine. Ready to go. 93p 2009 Chateau Cos d'Estournel really, really closed, very surprising. Leave it alone, cannot even rate it at the moment. 2008 Giaconda Chardonnay good, not excellent. 90p 2012 Giaconda Chardonnay excellent, a surprise to see it ...

Temperature issues
Just returned from a great trip to Darwin and NT to escape the winter chills in Melbourne. My wine fridge has decided to throw a tantrum in my absence and on returning home last night I found the lower section to be set at 34 degrees celsius (I measured the ambient temp inside the fridge at 28 degre...

As an addendum, please note that I do not intend to undermine the businesses or retailers involved with this site, nor detract from any retail sales by offering wine that is readily available on the retail market. I do not intend to "trade" other than swap by mutual agreement in an offline...

Hi all, I have been fortunate to be able to buy a number of different wines to add to my cellar. Some of which I have bought in multiple on the secondary wine market through auction. I have a number of bottles of wine that are ready or getting ready to drink that I will not get around to drinking, o...

RIGHT!!!! I am really miffed now. Having received a call from a local shop to advise that they have 3 x 2010 StH available for me I sent the good lady wife down to pick them up. I am currently away. The said shop had sold out of 2010 and were awaiting further supply that arrived today. The wife pick...

Hi there, Personally I would open it and drink it. 14 yo, nice bit of age. If it is fine, no complaints. If hideous and tainted then have a go at getting some sort of outcome that your happy with. Auctions carry a large amount of buyer beware if you have not previously delved into the world of the s...

Weekly Drinking Thread 10/3/2014
Ah....an opportunity to start one of these. I have looked forward to this. Must be the long weekend that has caused it to run late. A rather big long weekend in Melbourne; 2004 Chateau de Lamarque - Haut Medoc. Steely and acidic on first tasting. 1+ hours in the decanter it presented a medium weight...

Re: Decanting suggestions
Decant and serve .... I think it's more important to serve reds at right temperature than decant this time of year. Wack it in the fridge for half an hour, pour off half and then let it come to room temperature in the glass. This a great idea Dave. After the heatwave in Melb lately I have been tryi...

Re: Melbourne brown paper bag night
I am more than happy with the Pizza Meine Liebe suggestion. We live local and have also enjoyed For the Love of Pizza just down the road (one of the original PML employees went it solo).
Are people happy with a sojourn to the inner north? I will make arrangements for PML if this is the case.

Melbourne brown paper bag night
I was out at a local pizza place the other evening with the wife and kids. A group of guys (and one lady) turned up all carrying bottles of wine in brown paper bags. One at a time they opened and shared and discussed at length before the wine was revealed by the bottles owner. Some of the guys even ...

2001 Penfolds Thomas Hyland Shiraz - Opened 2 of the 6 I bought at auction and got my first lesson in Bret. Elastoplast, band aid and mousy smell. Very strong and pungent on tasting. 1973 Penfolds Grange - 40 years on
Hi All, Had my 40th birthday on the 6th November and was taken to lunch by my wonderful wife. As lunch began I was given a wooden box and a card. To my surprise a bottle of 1973 Grange was inside. Wow. A week later and a little concerned after many nights reading reviews, I was quite certain that th...
