We found that some of the "reserve" pinotages that spent a long time in oak had that flavour. I don't remember coming across it in any of their straight cabernets or shiraz/syrah. The easier drinking pinotages (Leopards Leap comes to mind) do not have that flavour.

Well this ties in with another post of mine - despite the fact that it is a wooded chardonnay they have no melolactic fermentation in their chardonnay. So it does not have that oily, buttery oaky taste that always reminds me of when I used to have to oil my cricket bat when I was a kid...

Chardonnay with no melolactic fermentation
Hi all - this is my first post on the Auswine forum. I was hoping that someone could point me in the direction of any Aussie chardonnays that do not undergo any melolactic fermentation.
