Second last tasting in the Festival of Birthday, or "FestiMal". Some oldies from the cellar. All looked good, Grange and 707 were exceptional, Bin128 was surprisingly good, I threw in the Seaview as a bit of a curio, but it was still holding up. The St Henri wasn't the best bottle I've ha...

WDC Yellow Hammerhill Shiraz Malbec 2022. This is superb, like a silky cuddly blanket generous fruit, great depth, Malbec really brings everything together, and the 5% Cabernet gives a nice freshness. Long palate, finest tannins, super smooth and carries the 15.2% easily. A definite nod to Tony Bra...

Re: Nebbiolo newbie

I had a quick look at Ethereal, and yes a good selection, and a very interesting focus on northern piemonte (aka alto piemonte). One I'll call out for Pippo to try (but indeed would recommend in general) is Gaudio's Grignolino at AUD 42. Very much a benchmark producer for the variety, and a wine th...

Wine # 10 (Fortified) – 1982 Sevenhills Vintage Port (Clare Valley) Lighter in colour than a usual Aussie VP. Some slight browning but otherwise a dark strawberry Colour. Is it built in a style to age?
I have yet to try any gamay that should be cellared long term (which includes Beaujolais cru)

My preferred style of gamay is red fruits, fresh and drinks perfectly now.

It's a bbq / food wine to be enjoyed now with friends and family.

Just my .02c

So Rossco you seem to prefer their SSB to the gamay? Here is my note from the 2014 tried recently 2014 Sorrenberg Gamay (Beechworth) Much darker in colour than the left glass, not sure of the commonality of this wine yet, as this looks and smells completely different. Interesting comments on the Yattarna Rosscoe. Had a magnum of 2006 recently and the nose world class but the palate wasn’t. It was in cork. Lacks the oomph and tension of Grand Cru Burgundy/ top 1er Cru Burgundy. Would have preferred it in screwcap! It was a clearly a new world wine, but some peopl...

Ouch! Hitting that failure rate is especially tough given the pricing level and expectation of the bottles in question. On that last wine I certainly remember finding it interesting but unusual (even challenging) when I've drunk it. In youth, the somewhat bitter tannins were a big shock, and the al...
