Re: Food wine matching - who cares?
What came first, the pretentious wine/food matching at that level of detailed programmatic specificity , or the food descriptions that emanate from food industry that delve to the depths of Alaskan pepper corns freshly cracked over the pan-seared Kalahari flat-head caught 10 minutes prior.

To add to those mentioned from my preference: Lakes Folly, but may be out of wine by then Lakes Folly seems to be staying open longer (making more wine? Selling less?) or at least they did last year but I really wouldn't go there with a big group unless you were die hard wine fans... the place is t...

To add to those mentioned from my preference: Gundog Estate Meerea Park but also bemoan the move to the Tempus Two complex. As mentioned, however, their cellar door, being at the far end of the complex, was quite quiet. Keith Tulloch - they have the Muse kitchen on site (haven't tried it) and a grea...

Gundog Estate Wild Semillon 2013 x 3 . I love this stuff. Wild yeast ferment. Unlike traditional semillon, I would not be looking to keep it long in fact I would probably drink 2 immediately and think of storing one Thanks for the suggestion - I was very impressed with the wines on offer and cellar...

Re: Vintec Fridge - LEDs failing
Apart getting the unit repaired, with the expected bill a few hundred dollars, perhaps you could utilise a small battery powered digital thermometer available from your local electronic store to monitor the operation of the fridge, or one of the old fashioned thermometers that don't require batteri...

Vintec Fridge - LEDs failing
We have a 110 bottle multi-zone Vintec fridge (forget the model) that has the temp controller in the middle, with one LED display for each zone. Over the last year or so, the LEDs have been failing such that the segments that make up the digit 8 fail to show. This makes the display illegible and, th...

Has Anyone tried the Sporran 2011 by Torbreck? Got an offer to buy some at around $40 a bottle. Not tasted it so keen to hear from those who have. Not sure, but I think this is an export wine that sometimes doesn't get shipped. I bought some 2007 a year ago or more for about $25. Very nice wine but...

Thanks for the quick response.

Fault/Taint - Penfolds Reserve 06 Chardonnay
We opened the above bottle (screwcap) on Saturday night. It had been in the wine fridge since purchased 2-3 years ago from one of the supermarket chains. Opened it up and it had a really wooden and vegetal smell that permeated the palate. It was not nice at all. The next day, the nose was more like ...

You may not be looking at the right independents, there are three offering Mumm NV under $50 and as low as $44.17 + reasonable freight or $44.99 freight inclusive for orders over $200. The chains are cheaper this week on Moet NV, Taittinger NV by a couple of dollars, Dom Perignon 2002 by a dollar, ...

What I don't get Moet NV hammered here at DMs on the weekend, 1C match it for 3 days but then put out their own price at $5 pb more and i hear a staffer say that we have not shifted much of that in the last 2 days. The chains are great for beer, but yes a number of wineries that i buy from every ye...

Vintage Cellars is the biggest rip off of all liquor outlets. What they do with RRP's is bordering on illegal. With their so called 30% off on dozen buys, they are still more expensive than almost every liquor outlet in the land. They say a fool and his money are easily parted. That is the fact tha...

Opened a 2010 Keith Tulloch Merlot last night - not thinking much of merlot so thought "what the heck", as it were.
Liquorice, plums and some savoury notes carrying through to the palate which was integrated with very soft oak. Not too bad and could have done with a few more years.

2007 Chateau Mont Redon CdP. Lovely red fruits and some spices on the nose with a touch of vanillin oak. The palate showed a little savoriness and more spiced fruit and soft tannins. Well worth the restaurant mark up for a birthday lunch.

Picked up a couple of 2009 Henschke Henry's Sevens as it is supposed to be low in preservatives. Will give one a go this weekend. Was originally after the 2008 but they had changed over to the 2009.
