Re: Vale Mychurch - Our great friend, Cameron

So sad to hear this news, feel like I knew him just via his positive and enthusiastic posts, often on obscure wines I also loved! But never had the pleasure to meet him. Really hoping Trudi gets over her injuries and that she has some support around her as it’s going to be so tough. RIP Cameron.

Re: Moving house

Why don’t you set your fridge up temporarily at someone’s place and then put them back in until you actually move? This. Phone a friend! Free bottle of wine to cover the power cost. Avoid the feeling on a really hot day of stressing that your precious liquid babies aren't safely tucked away at 12C.

Re: Flawed Spoiled Wine

I have a question and I’m not too sure if you can help me. What do you do when you buy a 200+ bottle of wine from the wine retailer you have purchased wine from for 10 years, and you get a flawed, spoiled wine? Thanks for you help! Brian I would just say the bottle was faulty, and that you still ha...

Re: First time wine fridge buyer

I know I could google it, but if the price of said 312 bottle fridge is decently better per bottle compared to the 195, I'm totally on bdellabosca's wavelength. Buy one big good fridge and be done with it. Otherwise I'd say get the 195, and think about quality over quantity, and/or when needed get a...

Re: TN: A Pefolds Dinner 07/05/21

Always a massive cork lottery, even if the wines were all bought on release and well cellared. i have heard anecdotal reports of multiple backup wines needing to be opened at the Penfolds Rewards tastings just to get a sound bottle of that particular wine. And of course this is not at all specific t...

Re: First time wine fridge buyer

How much is the 195 bottle Liebherr available for? I've only owned one but it's rock solid. Too pricey if not 'on special' but 'buy once buy right' is a good motto.

Calm your excitement lads, unless there are multiple backup bottles, 20%+ will be corked. :D Haha, of course I hope they all show well. Had a 96 707 a month or two back, was excellent, just in the happy zone I reckon, but no hurry obviously. 98 707 prob still too much coconut oak, not a fan of that ...

So happy you guys branched out a bit Allan!! i could be here all day trying to justify the wines of Jura but it's not worth trying to convince those who don't enjoy the style that it's worthy of interest. i get it, it's a crazy region, and there are a decent percent of wines that even Jura lovers wo...

Re: Steven Spurrier, the Judgement of Paris, and an Old Napa Cabernet

Nice post Mahmoud, I love old Cabernet wines, and Napa can seriously deliver. 1978 was a good vintage for them too, pleased the cork held up and delivered. Not too surprised on the Rosemount though... but worth a try!

Re: Grand Cru Tasting Group (Perth) - Grenache and blends

Thanks for the notes Allan, I agree it's hard to be convinced by 100% Grenache, but in my opinion, it's all about the winemaking style. It's all too often made in a 'Shiraz style', picked late, too ripe, too hot, confected, too jammy. I too have enjoyed the Rockford and the Cirillo in the past but n...

Re: Wine cellar advice

Yeah agreed we do worry more than we need to for more riper style reds (and perhaps Burgundy, but given the prices they are today vs Halliday's era I'd not risk it). Dave vino hosted a wine dinner years ago looking at various storage issues, the only one some noticed a vague change in was the wine l...

Re: Wine cellar advice

Agreed, brodie is on the money. I wouldn't be storing whites or bubbles in there myself (and nor are you I assume), but for more robust reds, really no issue in the shorter/medium term at 19-21C. Consistency is key, and avoiding hot spikes. Above 25C for extended periods I wouldn't be comfortable bu...

Did the cork gods shine on you? Mostly!! But the Rousseau Chambertin 2011 was corked, very sad as I was particularly excited about that one. I find it's more producer dependent, a few are notorious for too much of the wrong brett, others have benefitted from a touch of brett adding to the uniqueness or enjoyment of their wines. Many are 'cleaning up' these days though, not always a good thing IMHO but it's a bit random so levels can't be...

Great matchstick nose. Tight, flint, linear structure, white grapefruit. Bouncing with energy. Really brilliant wine. Needs some time to open. Very good QPR - buy by the case if you see it. Bit of a house quaffer this, another one bit the dust at a (small) party last night. Has good overall balance...

Love it Dave (and thanks everyone for the nice comments), it's true that growing up in Invercargill, that was my general reaction to sunshine. And by the time I realised it held tanning potential, 5 mins later it was raining again.
