Remember that 97 DW Patriach Shiraz?
Incredibly bad nose of oysters and soy sauce? Well, I sent a bottle off to Mountadam for assessment and the verdict was...DMS. The winemaker I spoke with seemed to think that the wine was still drinkable and the fruit was there. I stated that to my palate, the wine was nowhere near drinkable and tha...

98 Baily's 1904 block : HUGE wine in the same category as say a Summerfield Reserve. Powdery tannis. I am leaving the rest alone for 20 years 99 Grosset gaia a very big cab blend with attractive fruit and oak. But way too young now, of course. 1980 Farmer Bros, Hunter Valley Hermitage Got this at a...

98 Wynns Cabernet : disapointed considering the hype. Insipid and green. 97 Highbank Cabernets : This is one of my fav coonawarra cabs and the bottle didn't disapoint. A craker needing as bit more time for perfection 98 Wendouree Shiraz : Tight but with good fruit starting to show through. Not bad ...

Rockford 2000 CabSav
Nose of burnt toffee and road tar - transfers to palate. Some good fruit behind it with subtle oak. Possibly cooked and not really drinkable. Unfortunately I have a case (from Langtons). Any other experience with this wine?

Summerfield Reserve Shiraz 2000 Opaque and black. Abundant fruit and oak. Slightly chalky tannis and finishes just a little short and hot. Needs time of course. Good now and great in a few years I think. Zeema Cluny 98 Quite a large wine - still young with time needed to intergrate. Attractive but ...

BYO
Anyone know a good BYO restaurant in Melbourne? - city area. In Canberra we are spoiled with a great range of well priced restaurants which are nearly all BYO. Not so, it appears, with the rest of the country where I have much frustration in finding quality food and BYO together. I suspect its not j...

Opaque, brick red colour with obvious sediments. Nose is restrained with some berry characters. Palate soft and long with good fruit and hints of mocha. Mouthfilling with complexity. A great wine and drinking well. Probably just off its prime for some. 12.5% alc

The colour, to me, appears correct for its age - red/puple. Slightly cloudy. There is no brown apples or sherry characters that I would associate with oxidation. Spoke with Mountadam and they will assess a bottle if I send one over. Can't say Ive ever struck this b4. The wine was purchased from Lang...
