Re: Shiraz on the Outer?

Personal preferences might explain a greater number of pinot and cabernet than shiraz, but if this list is as you say and it hasn't come up with one straight shiraz in a top 100 Aus/Nz new release wines, then it suggests some kind of w@nky anti-shiraz agenda.

Re: Coonawarra shockers

liked the 07 Wynns black label, but didn't love it. But the again that's not the point. Its undoubtedly a wine that will just get better with age, and in 10-15 years time will be beautiful.

White wine in the fridge

If you've put a white in the fridge in anticipation of drinking it this weekend, but then for whatever reason it doesn't get drunk, and you think that it might be a week or two before you actually drink it, is it best to leave it in the fridge for the next couple of weeks, or put it back in the cell...

Cellarable Margaret River Reds

With a couple of great recent vintages (07 + 08) in the Margaret River, was wondering what Cabernets people would recommend putting in the cellar for the next 10-15 years in the $30 or less range?

Cheers,

Re: Hot Sunday - more like Summer.....

Had a 90s dinner last night . . . 1999 Tyrrell's Vat 1 Semillon - Smelt and tasted amazingly young and fresh. Still predominantly lemon and lime, with just the start of the buttery, toasty characteristics. Should cellar for a long time yet. Great wine 1991 Tahbilk Shiraz - Had concerns as to whether...

Re: Old vines in Australia

Does the Yarra still have any 1800s vines? I know they made wines there in the mid 1800s, but have never heard of any old vine wine coming from the Yarra.

Re: Old vines in Australia

thanks for the replies. It would be great if these wines/wineries could get together to promote and market these historic wines to the world as the Centurions Club or something. Similar to the recently launched First Families (and I'd imagine there would be some overlap), it would be a great way to ...

Old vines in Australia

Was wondering if there was any website or source that lists Australia's oldest vines?

I know of the mid 1800's vines of Turkey Flat, Langmeil, and Tahbilk, but would like to know what other 1800s and even early 1900s vineyards are out there.

cheers,

Andrew

Visting Champagne

Has anyone been to any wineries/cellar doors in Champagne that they would recommend?

I was at the Sydney tasting and amongst many wonderful wines got to taste a 1999 John Riddoch!

Loved the Parker wines as well, with the First Growth a standout

Thanks for the replies. Was looking at purchasing the Chalambar from Leura Cellars in the Blue mountains, but instead went with a 1991 Tahbilk Shiraz, and a 1996 Leasingham Bin 56 Cab Malbec. Here's hoping that the Tahbilk has held up!

1994 Seppelt Chalambar shiraz

I'm contemplating purchasing a few bottles of the 1994 Chalambar shiraz, and was just wondering if anyone was familiar with how this wine is travelling? At its peak? In decline? Still improving!!!???

Cheers,

Thanks everyone. Went to Lavinia this afternoon and it was amazing for its huge range of wines. The staff are also very professional and helpful. They had basically every french wine I'd ever heard or read about and plenty of others. For all the 500 Euro wines there were also plenty of wines around ...

Wine bars/stores in Paris

Currently in Paris, and was wondering if there are any specific wine bars or bottleshops that people can recommend (I'm staying in the Marais area if that helps).

Cheers!

Barolo

Heading off for a holiday to Europe shortly, and will be spending a few days in the town of Barolo. Was wondering if there were people who had spent time in Piedmont/Barolo, and whether they had any tips or recommendations in terms of wines/wineries to try.

Cheers,

Andrew

2002 Houghton Gladstones Frankland River Shiraz

I've picked up what should be a bit of a bargain with a case of the 2002 Houghton Glaststones Frankland River Shiraz for $210. However, I'm struggling to find much in the way of reviews on this particular vintage of the wine. There seems to have been plenty written on the '01 and the '03, but nothin...

Agreed Kris. Went to the same tasting. It was the first time I had tried a mount mary quintet, and despite it having good structure and being well made, I was pretty underwhelmed, especially at $120 a bottle. Obviously it should get better over time, but wouldn't be prepared to buy any. Perhaps its ...

Aged Margaret River Cabernet

I've come to love my MR cabernets, but have yet to have any beyond about 10 years of bottle age. If I was to splurge on a 15 year+ MR cabernet what wines and vintages would people recommend? How long lived can they be?

Cheers,

Andrew
