Re: Penfolds Bin Release Vintec deal....

A big thanks to Moira a.k.a sparky for her excellent PR work, and for reassuring us customers throughout what must have been a very demanding promotion. Above and beyond. It's a case study on how big companies should be communicating to customers via the Internet. I received my fridge a month or so ...

Re: Penfolds Bin Release Vintec deal....

For those who have participated, have you heard anything from the promoters? I sent my claim form in early March and haven't received any confirmation nor has my credit card been debited. Nope. I sent mine in on 12 March via express post, with enclosed money order. I've rang the money order enquiry...

Great picture RB, Certainly a lot more appetising than the shelves I viewed. At 33 Baht to the dollar, the Majella certainly looks good at around $50. At current exchange rates, alas, it would almost be $80. I'm thinking of going to Bali mid-year, does anyone know what wine prices are like there, as...

Thanks RB and Jamie, I'll definately try to take more next time I go. I ended up taking a Seppelt Drumborg (thinking that it would do well in a warm climate[which it did]), and an 06 Wynns BL. Needless to say, both wines were finished after my third night. Whilst accustomed to drinking wine, predomi...

Wine in Thailand

I'm heading to Thailand (phuket) in a couple of weeks, and have become aware of the huge makups and duties that they apply on wine. Some examples at restaurants are: Penfold Bin 407 Cabernet-Sauvignon 2005 - 7,900 THB ($345 AUD) Sandalford Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 - 2,800 THB ($122 AUD) And I seem to...

For sparkling shiraz, I use red wine glasses. Typically I have the first glass some 25 minutes after taking the bottle out of the fridge. That seems to be the right time for my palate. Sounds sensible. I might even consider using a white wine glass by way of compromise. But why a flute? Oh dear - d...

Thanks Elvis & Griff, I think that I opened it a bit too warm as I lost almost a third of the bottle from spontaneous eruption. I had it in the freezer for 20 minutes, but on reflection an hour or so would have been better. I've put it back in the fridge, and hopefully it can retain the existing...

Going back to the first post, the question of why a wine that may be sub-par is priced so highly: I think this highlights in part what we're all doing here. If wine prices perfectly reflected quality, then a lot of what we talk about on this forum would be moot. Of course there are still stylistic c...

Hi,

You say that he likes hunter valley wines. Go for Meerea Park, either the Hell Hole or the Alexander Munro. Brokenwood 'Graveyard' might be considered the best hunter red.

Brian, In both the cases you cite the branding is the same on both online and shopfront entities. This is not the case here. As such my HT/Officeworks analogy apply. Branding is irrelevant, companies can trade under different names via registration of a business name with consumer affairs victoria....

A September Melbourne Offline?

Melburnians, At the last offline, we tentatively put forward a September date for the next offline, coupled with a tentative theme of Barossa v Rutherglen. With September fast approaching, I thought I'd open up discussion on the viability of a sept offline. I'm quite happy with the proposed theme, a...

Maybe have a look at some other wines. Whilst the three that you've mentioned are doubtlessly quite good, I'm sure that you could get something better. Perhaps even buy a red and a white. I quite like the riedel O-series shiraz glasses. I bought mine for $18 each, which at the time I thought to be pretty good value. They've since proved even better value than I first thought compared to my old Vinums, considering that they are much more difficult to break, due to the lack of stem.
