Re: Barolo and Barbaresco Dinner. 4 May

Wow, it's been years since I have visited/posted on this forum! Life just got busy, and so I consolidated my wine forum activity amongst other things. Looks like Auswine has had an awesome resurgence of late! Congrats all! Anyways, Dave has reeled me back in for this one, and I just realised this is...

1996 E&E Black Pepper Shiraz - smooth, elegant, lost most of its primary fruit, but etherial in its loveliness. No decanting and did improve for a couple of hours and found myself licking the bottom of the glass. Simply wonderful but if you have any left I wouldn't wait too long. Thanks Luke, s...

2007 Te Mata "Awatea" Bordeaux blend I recall Craig (where are you Craig?) posting a year or so back that the 07 was a special year for this wine, and that he'd be holding his a lot longer. Well, you'd enjoy being told how right you were Craig. I've not touched this wine for 3 years, and ...

The Last Hoorah

(well for a little while anyways...) A couple of days ago, I caught up with MichaelR, griff and Hacker to have my last wine related outing before our second child arrives. Nappy duties don't really bode well with fine dining and wining. As my deserted island wine would be a burgundy, the theme was j...

Last month: 1996 Bass Philip Reserve Pinot Noir Very Very Good. This month: 1996 Chateau Calon Segur The expressive bouquet was alive with bright red fruits, blending seamlessly with intriguing dried tobacco leaf, leather, and graphite minerality. In the mouth, layers of complexity tantalised the fo...

Re: Australia Day Drinking

2010 Pegasus Bay Pinot Noir

This is nowhere near as good as their Primadonna... Less stalky, less depth, falling off quite precipitously on the mid palate, and even though listed at a lower alcohol level, had more perceptible alcohol on the finish.

Just Good.

You know when you just have that urge to drink some good wine, and you have no one to share it with... What do you do? Contact a couple of mates, and 48 hrs later, you have a stonkingly good dinner! 2010 Domaine Hubert Lignier Bourgogne Rouge Gamy, red fruits with dry undergrowth. A little short on the palate though, with tart acidity and firm tannins. Well, I'll kick this off... 2010 Pegasus Bay Primadonna Pinot Noir Bright, perfumed dark sweet fruits.
