That's only the look of the Block 6 1.5L magnums - the 750ml label is still the same old-fashioned design.Mahmoud Ali wrote:I have to say the new bottle looks ugly - the old-fashioned labels were so much better.

Re: Kay Brother’s Refuses To Replace Corked Wine!
I have no quibble with either the complaint or the comments in this thread but surely one can't dock a star or lower a classification since those are awarded based on the quality of wines or investment value. Mahmoud. Yeah, I knew the Langtons was a reach, as their ratings have always been based pr...

Re: Kay Brother’s Refuses To Replace Corked Wine!
I used to recommend to people that Kay Bros Amery was a must visit when in McLaren Vale... not any more. This is disgusting customer service - if you can call it that. They sold a faulty product they should replace it, Covid is not an excuse. Treatment like this for a long term customer is not just ...

Think they go by Ardea Seal nowadays.... I like em...although not many long term examples to really test this out myself...Ponsot maybe but I'm not a fan of the style so not willing to pay the tariff to see how they've aged... I think Mac Forbes Experimental stuff used to have them....few other pla...

Hi Malcolm, It's the Guala Seal Elite synthetic cork - I had not seen one for years and was shocked to see it when I opened a 2016 Chateau Bernadotte a couple of months ago. I was sure I read/heard that the company went broke some time ago... There was an original thread about this thing back in 201...

Brett is something that blooms with oxygen and heat, so cellar age can definitely make it far more noticeable - one of my favorite wines ever is the 1995 Houghton Special Show Reserve Shiraz, yet the last bottle I tried was undrinkable (notably it had a low fill level and soaked/crumbly cork, so I f...

You should have opened up a 2004 St Henri instead... or maybe a 2012. Those two are the modern classics.Craig(NZ) wrote:Thanks everyone

That was surprisingly disappointing. I really enjoyed the last one I had, this one not so

Re: Has anyone drunk the 2010 St Henri lately?
When I tried the 2010 St Henri on release, I thought it was an overrated, overripe pop-tart. That hasn't changed over the years.
If someone wants to shell out $200 a bottle for it, good luck to them.

Re: NEWS: A possible Penfolds demerger?
I was under the impression Wynns still operated with a certain amount of autonomy? Less than you think. The wines are now being trucked to the Karadoc winery and made there. Plus they have lost a lot of their iconic Cabernet vineyards to Penfolds to pump out a truckload more Bin 389 & 407 (henc...

Re: NEWS: A possible Penfolds demerger?
It seems a strange time right now for Treasury to be pondering this move... for years when they (and Fosters) were trying to flog off any part of the old Sothcorp/Mildara Blass/Rosemount empire they could, Penfolds was the only thing others wanted to buy - and they wanted thing they desperately want...

Sounds like an excellent outcome to a wine that has received some criticism for the oak treatment. Would the 1990 Octavius be either the first or second vintage of the wine? I seem to recall that my bottle of the 1996 has the roman numeral VI or VII on the label. Mahmoud. Mahmoud, I was advised (by...

Buy up and enjoy these Lindemans guys (both the 1400 & 1410 are fantastic, I have not tried the 1403) as Treasury sold the Ben Ean Vineyard and these 2014s will be the very last of this particular Lindemans bloodline - there will be no Bin 1500 series, etc: https://www.therealreview.com/2017/10/...

Re: TN: Wynns Black Label from the 60s to the 90s
Good looking fill levels there - I suspect that the 1968, (and maybe the 1972 and 1976) have been refilled by Wynns sometime from the look of the capsules. The fill level on the 1965 (which definitely has the original capsule) looks very good indeed. 1991 Centenary in my experience has been increas...

Ian, the old Minchinbury takes me back. Managing the bottle shop/drive thru' of a very busy inner southern suburban hotel, it was either Pennies, Orlando Carrington, or Seaview Brut. On the plus side, my old magnum of Penfolds Minchinbury must now be worth a small fortune, right?

Do you plan on going oldest to youngest? If you have 14 decanters handy I would suggest a single decant, the oldest wines will have the least time & the least chance of oxidation, the big late 90s wine should get a decent breathe before you look at them.

Re: What unpopular (wine) opinions do you have?
As an occasional consumer, I hate the sales model (ie. mailing & waiting list method) of Wendouree and those that try and emulate it. I don't want to be stuck buying dozens of bottles of wine I don't want to remain on the list on the off chance that there's something I do want down the track.. ...

I don't want to in any way appearing to be SA bashing, but SA has not not had an outstanding vintage for a number of years. The summer heat has negatively impacted on vintage in SA for several years. It's not so much the summer heat that has been the problem the last few years, it has been the comp...

Re: What unpopular (wine) opinions do you have?
While I'm at it, here's another one I'm throwing into the Hornet's nest: Double Decanting is an over-rated, antiquated practice that in almost all circumstances should be avoided (especially for old wines) . I hate it when so-called wine experts automatically double decant old wines without a second...

Years ago I remember seeing a video of James Halliday decanting an old Burgundy which demonstrated how gently it can be done with minimal disturbance to the ...
