Re: Sparkling Red Wine Tasting 19/03/11

Hi guys, I also had the 2007 release recently and thought it was right in the groove, much better than the 2006 OSS I had at Christmas. It says on the back that the average age of the material was 6 years, so from around 2001, but not single vintage. I thought it was well balanced, with good intensi...

I don't post here often, but I thought I'd add my 2c worth, being in my 20s and recently out of a big Australian uni. You absolutely do not need top English skills to get into a uni course. If you came through the Australian school system, entrance to most courses (although I'm not sure about medici...

I also tried this wine last year and thought it had a lot going for it, but was still too young, thanks to the acidity still showing too strongly. Definitely not weak.

Since this thread has been resurrected, I thought I'd put in my 2c worth, given that it is different to most people's opinions. I picked up a bottle of the Balmoral '02 from DM's as well, brought it home and cracked it that night, half expecting disappointment, half hoping for something better (this...

Cabs that I have enjoyed recently include Bowen Estate 2001 and Vasse Felix 1999. Both will probably improve a bit more, but were excellent drinking now as well.

Cabs that I have opened and found to be too young include Crofters 2000 and Balnaves 2001.

I guess 5 years is very different to 15 years! I am definitely still at the stage where I want to try as many different things as possible because you never know what you might like. I only rarely buy more than 2 bottles of a particular vintage of a wine, even though I know wines change considerably...

As someone who likes to visit cellar doors to 1) try before I buy, and 2) learn about as many different wine styles as I can, I would much prefer to pay $2-10 (depending on what you get) for a tasting of a full range of wines. If a winery lets me try a large range of wines, including premiums, I wil...

My 2c worth (I am trying to get to my 5 post quota) - I love the Canberra district, Orange and even enjoyed tasting through the range at the Cassegrain cellar door recently, which gets fruit from all over NSW, including a lot from the Northern Slopes region (New England area), which I had never hear...

I have been checking out this forum for a while, but this topic is what has prompted me to finally register and post. I have been drinking, buying and cellaring wine for about 5 years, which isn't a long time, but it's not short either. I have definitely seen a progression in my tastes from warm cli...
