Bordeaux Trip

Hi I’m looking for recommendations for a private guide when I’m in France in Feb. Also how hard is it to get a visit into the big name wineries? Cost? Grateful for any suggestions. Don’t mind paying a bit more for a great experience. All the same I’m happy to go to some not so big names if the wines...

Re: Gamay

I love Gamay as an easy drinking mid-week type of wine. I just had a look what would be available at Uncle Dan's for example, because I suspect a lot of what I drink in France for €8-15 is probably disproportionately more expensive in Aus. Sadly, not a wide range (only 28 wines). From that some sug...

Gamay

Having found a new appreciation for lighter reds I was hoping a few if you could recommend some inexpensive gamay’s. Ie good midweek value.

Cheers

Cheapies

Hi I thought I would start a thread for any notable cheapies. Managed to find some highly drinkable ‘The Farm’ (Watershed) which is a Merlot / Cab Franc blend. Impressed me for $5 a bottle with a bit of air time. Definitely cheap and definitely passable. *No affiliation with any groups or retailers ...

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight

Thank you Allan for recommending Ashbrook. A few days in MR and it was a highlight - well priced and very good wines. 2011 cab merlot v good...rich full bodied, dark cherries and bitter choc. Grabbed some riesling too! Lenton Brae - these guys are seriously contending for the best Chardonnay in the ...

Re: A weekend in SA

There's a beaut b&b next door to Rockfords which is cottage style, unfortunately I can't remember the name.

Ferment Asian for dinner in Tanunda is excellent.

I would recommend Gomersal Wines for their 2010 reserve shiraz. Decanter gave it a glowing accolade and only $25!

Yelland & Papps Devote Shiraz 2012
Lovely mulberry and cassis intermingled with meaty, bacon fat notes. It's powerful, long and very approachable now.

Amazing value at $33 - highly recommended!!

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight

After cooking a 2008 Metala White Label Shiraz Cabernet in the car while camping last week, I thought I'd try another one this weekend but while camping I also tried a Mollydooker Blue Eyed Boy. Both tasted okay to start with but then I found both to be way to alcoholic. Each to their own but I don...

Re: Best's Bin 1 Shiraz 2013

I have quite a few 11's left. Certainly a big whack of white pepper with these wines. Interestingly the wine maker suggests the 11's are 'drink now' propositions. Not sure about the 12 and 13.

Woodlands 2012 Cabernet Franc Merlot. Tried it the other week and was very impressed, and ordered a case, first one on the block tonight. Broader profile than the normal Cab Merlot....interesting. Would like to see this with 5+ years bottle age on it. Might bury some in the cellar. Hacker it's a cr...

What else but another of my wine of the yr.
Gomersal 2010 Shiraz

Dark bitter chocolate, coconut rough, mint. A touch of liquorice. It's wonderfully balanced and in check.
Superb wine.

Re: Good daily shiraz

If you can stretch to $25, the 2010 Gomersal Reserve Shiraz is incredible value that with a bit of air drinks really well now but will cellar (and improve) for 10+ years no worries at all. Gomersal's 2010 Shiraz is my QPR wine of the year thus far. Stunning stuff and Decanter thought so as well. Fo...
