Re: Best sub $20 pinot..?
thanks again everyone for replying to this thread I ended up stumping for the JC Pepik - it is a lighter style of pinot, but it's food friendly, well balanced with good varietal fruit characters and will be great if the mercury hits 30c as planned in Central Victoria Cheers and happy drinking over c...

Re: Best sub $20 pinot..?
Curly Flat's second label "Williams Crossing", is about $21? I think... and it's my house pinot of choice. Seems to be spot-on in practically all vintages. Another vote for Hoddles, although I'm increasingly of the opinion that their Chardonnay is their real gem. R Wines Permutations Pino...

Re: Best sub $20 pinot..?
Personally, I've never had a decent pinot under $30, let alone $20. If you find one you rate at that price point, let me know! As it 'appens, I'm having duck for xmas too. Wasn't sure on the wine match for me... but was thinking of going against the grain and having something other than pinot. I re...

Best sub $20 pinot..?
I have to source a fair bit of pinot for xmas day (Duck is on the menu...) and my budget is going to stretch to around $20 a bottle
Any suggestions?
My other option is a Gamay (Pfieffer perhaps), which would do a similar job with matchin the duck.

I was lucky enough for a bottle of this to land on my lap... One of the big chains 'cellar releases' no doubt. Anyone have any view on this vintage? Should I be hanging on to it, or drinking now...? Also v lucky to get a Jasper Hill Georgia's paddock 08 as well. It's almost like it's my birthday. Oh...

For anyone interested, my website, http://www.davidlole.com , is up and running again after a period of hibernation. I've recovered a lot of data from my defunct computer's hard drive and now have the keys to get back in. If anyone thinks this is spam, well and be good, but I generally post my tast...

Thanks Gary - I recall popping open an 07 Estate Chardonnay and finding the oak a little prominent. I'll stick these away and try and forget about them

Ingolby 2008 Cabernet, McLaren Vale. $11 bucks from Dan Murphy's. Cheap and cheerful. Plenty of varietal character and lots of rich, ripe blackcurrant. Oak is a bit overdone and has the unmistakable whiff of being chips. Tannins are big and chunky and the acidity bright. Settled down after an hours ...

Thanks to everyone who responded
I'd love to give the Eldridge a go, but it might be a bit cost prohibative for the dinner I'm organising
The Pfieffer is a cracker for $16-18 and it's a shame it doesn't have greater exposure.

Australian Gamay
Apart from a couple of solid examples I know such as Sorrenberg and Pfieffer, can anyone recommend me a good Australian Gamay? Something simple, that can be lightly chilled?
Thanks in advance

Rather partial to prosecco at the moment, although if finances allowed that would stretch to a nice little Ruinart or Bollinger

I dashed into Dans last night and only had time to taste the 08 black label. My initial impressions were that it was a good solid, cabernet. Lots of good black fruit and plenty of tannin and acidity to keep it along. In fact I think I've still got a few of those tannins hiding in my gums somewhere. ...

If you're referring to the Patricia I agree, the 02 was excellent. Not seen it for $35 though!

I was supposed to delve into the cellar for something decent to mark my return to the bottle, but ultimately I knew quantity would overrule quality so I opted for a Angove Organic Chardonnay 2009 A solid, decent chardonnay with good stone and citrus fruit. A few notes from the UK
So, I recently got back from visiting my family in the UK, and a couple of things struck me that I thought I'd make a mention of 1) the seemingly dwindling stock of Australian wines on bottle shop shelves; before I left (Apr 2007) to come to the UK, pretty much a 1/3rd of my local oddbins was dedica...

Actually, you are in a similar position as me. I found that I lost a filling on Saturday, and I have not had a wine since.
