I used to put a lot of effort into quizzes here, but was never adequately acknowledged or appreciated and got sick of being taken for granted, so changed my apprenticeship to plumbing.

Friday Quiz - buying power

In August 1993 Christies Auction House in Sydney comibined with Langtons for a major auction of Decorative Arts, Paintings, Furniture and Fine Wine. The Catalogue for this auction was a collectible in itself, over 300 pages with colour plates of many of the lots. If you happen to have a copy, don't ...

I assume that, while you're at the bottom, you can tell which switches are on and which are off. I'm similarly assuming that I'm allowed to start at the top, with a light on already. (Say, I was up there cleaning when I had this great idea). So, I start at the top with one light on. I descend the s...

Start at the switches downstairs. Turn one switch on, say for about 1 minute. Turn it off. Turn another switch on and go up the stairs. The warm globe will be the first switch, the lit globe will be the on switch and the rest follows! Therefore one trip is needed. I think. BINGO! The right answer, ...

Anything to do with the light switches having dimmers? Or timers? Cause it's easy in one trip then. Otherwise, my brain's not nearly creative enought. OK, start at the top, with one or two lights already switched on. Down to the bottom, to toggle one of the two lights that are of the same status. Back to the top, to check which one you just changed. I don't think I broke any rules. Two trips. Kieran Sorry Kieran, Down at the bottom you still don'...

DOWN the stairs to the cellar, pull out Quizmaster's favourite bottle of expensive red that should not be opened for twenty years, pull the cork, drink it down. And when Quizmaster rocks up tell him to stick his switches where the light don't shine. An enticing suggestion, however the ILQ wouldn't ...

No, both wrong, Michael, by your twice I think you mean two trips up and down, which is four (up down up down). Hmm, I'm clearly missing sonething. It's got to be an even number of trips - either 2, 4 r 6. So: cheers, Graeme I don't have to finish at the bottom I only need to figure out which is whic...

I don't think I understand the question, but the only special use of the word reserve that I know of is "Show Reserve" which does indeed mean that there must be a specific quantity that was/has been the same as that entered in a show. Or something. Actually, I read that so long ago I can't remember...

Good thought Mark, but not the one I'm after and I'm after a range, not a wine.

Also a search around doesn't indicate that the what the Gamekeeper's Reserve is. The wine I'm after is quite specific in the 'how do they do it' area.

I'm back, and thank you all so very much for the enquiries after my health in the past couple of weeks, not that there was any of course. Anyway, to the Quiz. The word "Reserve" is widely used on Australian wine to provide allusion of quality to the wine. The "Reserve" may denote extra oak aging, sp...

Hells vine
Droll Alchemists

I obviously like the last one, but the second last one has a touch of panache as well.
