Fan. Should be more of it.

Yering Station do a decent affordable SV. Likewise Yalumba.

Is it done much anywhere else in the world?

My guess with Shiraz Viognier is that it is hard to get right. A lot rests with the wine making. A risky blend in that regard.

2010 Yalumba Hand Picked Shiraz Viognier.

Initial thoughts ... Pepper and spice.

A blend I really like. Always surprised it’s not more popular.

I have 3 of the 2008 cellared away. Sounds like time to give one a try.

Hunter Visit

I’m in the Hunter Valley this week. Anyone got any recommendations for some smaller under the radar wineries to visit? Hunter Shiraz is my thing. Thanks.

Nice write up. Very informative. Thank you.

Wished I'd bought some of the 2008 Davis when it was released.

2014 Hunter Shiraz - Release Dates

I'm near the Hunter at the moment and am wondering what 2014 shirazes are on sale at the moment? Got a feeling I'm a few weeks too early. Are any of the Meerea Park, De Iuliis, Tulloch or Mount Pleasant 2014's on sale yet?

Well I just hope that Wynns survive. Would be great if their management could stump up the capital for a buyout. Free themselves of TWE.

These are very very big global investors, among the top 10 institutional investors globally. Your talking guys who manage upwards of more than $1tn (trillion) of assets each (for the Fidelity Complex, Capital Group, BlackRock). Just an FYI. BlackRock manage over 4 trillion and are the worlds larges...

Re: When will they ever learn??

And you wonder, if they insert a new super premium Cabernet Sauvignon into the range, do all the regular bin's beneath it suffer? Heck at $70 (or thereabouts) RRP, Bin 407 is already questionable value.

Re: When will they ever learn??

I also think some simplification is needed. Some of the recent higher priced bin's are just flab, designed again for overseas consumption. So you won't be lining up to try the new Bin 9 Cabernet Sauvignon when it comes out with the Penfolds bins this year? Bin 9, great. A super premium to outdo Bin...

Only a matter of time before it blows up and they are forced to accept that, in the long run, for their business to be sustainable and profitable they have to focus on the domestic market first and foremost. They have shafted us over the past 5-10 years with ridiculous price increases. Essentially t...

Re: Aged wines to try

Also consider the strategy of drinking young & drink now wines to hold you over until your own wines are a bit older. I'd be selective on what older wines you up buy retail. Capacity to spend is a fantastically liberating feeling but it won't always be rewarded properly. See what you can find he...

Re: Aged wines to try

If you have a Dan Murphy's near to you, then see if they have any 2005 Seppelt Chalambar. Last I recall, a few months ago, it was readily available in most DM's stores I went into for only $30 odd. Now 2005 is not super aged of course, but worth a look. Generally speaking, you'll find it hard to get...

Re: Those who have storage at Kennards

I moved my wine into Kennards Artarmon today. $15 for a small cupboard. Beats the $60 I was paying at Winevault for a larger cupboard that had become too large for my needs. They gave me a voucher, giving both myself and a new customer a $50 credit. Would like to use it, but the twist is the new cus...

2010 Mount Langi Ghiran Billi Billi Shiraz : Ridiculously good for $15. Smells better than it tastes; its got that classic peppery and floral Grampians smell. No problems though with the taste. Again Grampians all the way. Just falls a little flat and watery in the end however. No complaints though...
