MC, You may in fact have me there with some of those producers. I don't buy Fox Ck (price) or d'Arenberg (don't really do it for me anymore, though I have enjoyed the Ironstone Pressings with its grenache content) anymore, however I do have Kays and Arakoon in the cellar awaiting trial. I have previ...

cabernet - shiraz blends: how much is too much?
Been thinking a little too much lately, and got pondering the "Australian" blend of cabernet and shiraz (also done elsewhere, of course): what are people's favourite proportions of cabernet to shiraz? Sometimes I feel that close-to-even proportions tend to dumb down the wine, with neither grape addi...

Noel - some excellent suggestions - I see you are well-versed in the lore of Barossan shiraz. I did indeed forget the Draycott post-reserve. Your ranking? If anyone wishes to add other wines such as Kaesler's OB, the Viking Grand, or Trevor Jones's Wild Witch, please do! Penfolds...ho hum. I do inde...

what's with McLaren Vale?
I've been quite disappointed with many McLaren Vale reds of late - most showing a distinct lack of complexity, or being over-ripe/overworked. I actually used to be an advocate of the area, but find myself buying less and less, and recently nil. Of late I can say that I've only really enjoyed the fol...

MC - I'm afraid I am sure that the Command would set off my oak alarms. FWIW I still have the two bottles of the 92 Command I bought with my first ever purchase of wine to cellar - $36 oz a pop back then. Noel, thanks for that - I should have probably also mentioned the following: Charles Melton shi...

I can vouch for the 97 - it's not far behind the 98 in quality at all. I was in fact pleasantly surprised - as I have been with other McLaren Vale 97s. I think that perhaps this region didn't suffer as much as Coonawarra or the Barossa in the 97 vintage (or Bordeaux, for that matter!). I don't drink...

Michel, Go to the Italiana Tribuna board on the WCWN board - you will find a wealth of wisdom there. In particular read the fabulous "Fun with Piedmonte Producers Parts 1-5" - guaranteed to get you wanting to pack your bags for that glorious wine region immediately... As for the other regions, they ...

which of these Barossans would you recommend?
Hi y'all, Have a quick question regarding the following Barossa shiraz from the 1998 vintage. Which would you recommend as being of the best quality, and the most delicious? Bearing in mind that I have a bit of an aversion to obvious oak, rank the following for me if you will: Rockford Basket Press ...

Oh, THAT Adam... how're things? I have a couple of Hay Shed Hill from '86 that are waiting to be tried - will let you know how they've aged. Picked up a few bottles from the recent sales here - '00 Beausejour Becot and '00 d'Armaillhac. BTW if you like Couspade they had the '00 for 5,900 yen which i...

Thereare a lot of growers out there producing some top fruit - look at the wave of new labels that has emerged as TORB previously commented. If one takes say Rockford as an example of non- or less-interventionalist winemaking, I for one would like to see what could be done with some of this fruit. I...

Hi Adam, You could have me there on the Domaine A cabernet. It was memorable, but mainly I just wanted to use the word "lashings" in a post. And what lovely cabernet coming out of these regions mentioned above? I have tried examples of them, and whilst nice enough not many ring my bell - eg Devils L...

egad, two responses to mine own post...what a sad case I am. Also was interested in a Domaine A cabernet I tried once. If any wine could be said to have "lashings", then this wine was it. Lashings of cabernet essence. And how could I forget Majella? The shiraz didn't warm my cockles, but the caberne...

Some producers that I find honestly priced that deliver the goods: Veritas - Good quaffing level wines in the Christa Rolf series, but the higher level Bull's Blood and Hanisch are absolutely superb in the way that they deliver a "complex" flavour profile within a balanced structure. Texturally the ...

A good topic, reminiscent of some I have enjoyed previously. I find the comments of many redolent of the tall poppies that grew in my grandmother's garden so long ago. Ah, finally I have been able to use the words "reminiscent" and "redolent" in the same post! Seriously though, it is indeed a good t...

Lately I've been disappointed with many, many of the Australian reds that I once enjoyed. I'm finding so many of the wines to be overoaked which is a turn-off to start with. Even those that have a good balance of fruit to oak I'm finding to be extremely sweet and often viscous in consistency. I used...

No mailouts - have a lone magnum purchased as I thought I recalled positive remarks from Fred some time ago.
Have some St George - a mag of 91 I think. I just don't find these wines give enough complexity to maintain interest nowadays.

Question re Lindemans Commerative cab sauv magnum 1990
Has anyone tried this recently?
How does it compare to the St George from that year, or to the other Lindeman's premiums?
Thanks in advance!

guys, my understanding is that this software archives automatically - you could just use the search function to search on the wine you wanted. This is fast and detailed, and means that we are not restricted to using a particular format in the titles (which were never much help anyway...). Also, if y...
